A Japandi-Inspired Home Rooted in Nature
The Midori Earth is a Japandi-inspired residential villa renovation at UKn Esperanza in Whitefield, Bangalore, designed by CozyNest Interiors.
The project takes its name from two complementary ideas. Midori, the Japanese word for green, evokes nature, freshness and tranquility. Earth represents warmth, grounding and the richness of India in earthy brown tone.
Together, these ideas establish the home's design identity: a theme shaped by natural influences, visual harmony and a sense of warmth into an Indian residential setting. The project places emphasis on a cohesive visual experience across the home, while remaining true to the homeowners' lifestyle and daily routines.
The Design Challenge: A full-house renovation to bring Calm, Cohesion and Everyday Comfort
The Midori Earth was purchased as a resale in a well-established older community. The young homeowners wanted the foundation for a warm residential environment where visual appeal and everyday functionality are considered together for their growing child.
The project's design brief and identity is based on three ideas:
-
A connection to nature. Green and earthy tones provide a visual reference to the natural world, supporting an atmosphere that feels grounded rather than overly decorative.
-
A cohesive design language. The home's interiors are conceived as parts of a larger composition, with visual relationships between spaces contributing to an overall sense of continuity.
-
Comfort through functional design. A beautiful home must also accommodate the practical needs of a growing child, preferences and routines of the people who live in it.
These principles blend well into CozyNest Interiors' "Life-Inspired Design" approach, which places the homeowner's experience at the center of the design process.
Beyond Aesthetics: Designing for the Way People Live
A successful villa renovation involves more than selecting colours, furniture and decorative finishes. It requires an understanding of how spaces will be experienced and used over time.
At The Midori Earth, functional design-thinking was an important part of the homeowners' experience. Mounika and Naveen particularly appreciated the attention given to their personal preferences and the way functionality was integrated with the home's aesthetics.
Their feedback also highlights the importance of making thoughtful choices within the project's budget, demonstrating that thoughtful residential design is as much about judgment as it is about visual expression.
The result, as described by the homeowners, is a home in which individual spaces feel connected and everyday living has been carefully considered.
The Homeowners' Experience
For Mounika and Naveen, the renovation experience was defined by the combination of Neelu's aesthetic sensibility, functional design thinking and attention to their budget.
In their published testimonial, they describe the interiors as cohesive, thoughtful and tailored to the way they live. They also highlight the guidance they received throughout the renovation and the positive response their home has received from visiting guests.
Working with Neelu on our house ‘The Midori Earth’ renovation has been an absolute delight.
She has an exceptional eye for aesthetics, seamlessly blending style and cohesion so that every room feels thoughtful and connected. What truly sets her apart is her functional design thinking. She doesn’t just design spaces that look stunning; she creates spaces that work effortlessly for daily life, perfectly tailored to our personal preferences.
Throughout the entire process, she was mindful of our budget, consistently offering smart, beautiful, and reasonable choices. In fact, every single guest who has visited our home so far has asked the exact same question: "Who designed this space?" Her understanding, expertise, and guidance made the entire renovation smooth and enjoyable, and we couldn't be happier with the result!
